SLB in parthership with ENTABLADO presents Buwan at Baril
BUWAN AT BARIL (by Chris Millado)
A play that revolves around the lives of Filipinos of different social standing during a time of political instability and deals with their response to the social injustice brought by the government.

With the theme KAISARIAN: PAGTATANGHAL NG BAYAN. Kaisa. Isa. Kasarian. Sari. Buwan at Baril will highlight the following:
Filipino (Literature)
Philippine Literature has evolved in particular eras such as traditional, colonial, modern and postmodern. This production is relevant in the modern era where literature has evolved in form and was not only used for entertainment but also primarily for propaganda to shed light on the situation of political turmoil and instability in the country.
History
This production goes back to the era where our country was ruled by fear and that injustice to our fellowmen especially the poor were prevalent. We pay homage to the Filipinos who learned to stand up for what they believed in and spoke up about the cruelty and mismanagement of the government. Since this season's theme is Kaisarian: Pagtatanghal Ng Bayan, we look back at our nation's history to see the Filipino people united and to truly understand why our fellowmen had to take action in their own hands and take the protests in the streets.
Political Science
One of the major issues highlighted by this production is the abuse of power by the government. During the era where Filipinos were ruled by fear, it is interesting to note that it was also the time where they helped restructure the flow of Philippine politics. The Filipinos made their voices heard and made it clear that they have had enough of the hypocrisy and injustice and they wanted the government to do its rightful duty, which is to serve the country and its people. This movement has become influential because it united the Filipino people from all walks of life and it continues to shape our society today.
Sociology and Anthropology
The production tackles the issue of social stratification by showing how most Filipinos are marginalized according to their social standing. The laborers and the farmers who are out to do the "dirty jobs" are left only with a meager salary that cannot even provide for the basic needs of their families. The rising gap between the rich and the poor is a relevant topic in Sociology because it reflects on how the Filipino society operates as a whole.
Another topic tackled in the play is deviance. It is the norm to succumb to following the government and those who were acting against it were condemned and imprisoned while some were even killed. Demonstrations were guarded by the police. Protestors were met with the policemen's truncheons and guns. In the time of political turmoil, going against the government was considered of deviant behavior.
Psychology
Psychology is taught to students as a science that studies behavior and mental processes. This production focuses on group discussions that lead to different levels of uprisings, which is greatly related to social psychology. Members of a group tend to influence each other. This leads to the strengthening of beliefs that the members have due to more persuasive arguments. With this, the play aims to educate its audience on how group discussions can influence the thoughts of different people leading to one solid thought that they will carry out. Communication Arts Theatre has been an institution that has proven to develop the skills of acting, production design, stage management, technology management and in a way that it produces good quality entertainment. Moreover, theatre remains a powerful medium in communicating idealisms and evoking emotions from its audience. It not only aims to satisfy the audience through the display of theatre production but also gives a better perspective of the world that surrounds them and challenges them on how they can change it.
The play will be staged at the Rizal Mini Theater, Ateneo de Manila University from August 16-September 1, 2007, 6:00 in the evening.
There will also be a matinee show on August 18, 25, and September 1 at 3:00 in the afternoon.Tickets are priced at 150 pesos.
